Why a website?
When creating a product that involves all four criteria, it is an absolute necessity that all tasks be completed within each task and within a specific time frame to achieve a successful result. Similar to other subjects, the criteria I created are focused on five major aspects: Aesthetics, Content, Functionality, Audience, and Publishing (see Appendix B). The aesthetics’ aspect mainly focuses on how eye-catching the product is and the visual features of the product as well as the specific details that convey the message or solution about the problem. The functionality strand focuses on how the website discusses information about squash, the experience that people have with the sport, and the physical and mental health aspect of the sport. The context and the audience focuses on how well the contact is conveyed to the target audience. Lastly, the publishing aspect focuses on how many people the product reaches. A well designed website can help to form a long lasting impression with an audience.
Inspiration:
For the website I was inspired by theme of sport and more specifically the colors associated with the sport. During my process I created 3 design ideas, each having a simar design. Each design was unique with elements of design that I liked and did not like to see what fits and looks best.
Design 1: The first design had a theme of sports specifically. The design had the least amount of elements that I personally liked. The color palette of the design consisted of darker colors like green and yellow and have some lighter colors of blue and off-white. The images for the design were again more sports related in general and not very subject specific and that might confuse the audience on what the project is really about. The layout was simple but has more of a outdated approach, by just having most of the information on one page and the same for the font, which was boring and not creative.
Design 2: The second design was much more liked compared to the first one. The second design focused more on the sport squash than sport. The color palette for this design is strictly white, red and black. The reason white, red and black is my color scheme is because those colors are associated with squash; red and white is the color of the court and black is the color of the ball. The images are a range of sports and squash which shows relevance for the topic and with the information. The structure is user friendly and easy to understand.
Design 3: The third and final design is a more of a free design. The color scheme doesn’t have any symbolism and is more different and less structured than the other 2 designs. The color scheme is light colors like pink, blue and purple which have no significant meaning. The images are related as they are similar to the second design. The format is professional however the look and feel is cluttered.
All of the inspiration can be seen in the designs which are displayed as evidence. I used ideas from different websites and publications to get most of the inspiration if it was not from real life experience. I made minor changes in the design like the images and the information. I didn’t make any major changes however I think making minor change made it easier for me but making the website and designing the website was still a challenge because as for me, the challenge was more to give justice to my goal which was to influenced by peoples values and beliefs.
